Young & Unafraid: Factions & Demons
More old DM binder stuff! Also dating to March 2020. Unedited. Uncompromised.
Factions
These factions exist outside of simple human ideology, though some human factions claim to associate with these unconscious forces outside of their reach. They are generally destructive to humans, but humans require their cooperation to survive. They are asymmetric to each other’s aims.
Chasm (Chaotic)
The nights are restless. A mother’s stomach growls. Her hands are worn, and her eyes are sunken. An old practice was to go to the cemetery and pull your hair, tear your clothes, and beat your breast. Mourn for your lost purpose, mourn for the life you could have had. Or worry not: they will mourn for you instead.
Demons are chaotic entities. They do not take material form, but they exist where the living suffer. They possess their bodies, turning them into monsters. They seek purpose, which they never find.
Spiral (Neutral)
Infinite productivity, unlimited enjoyment. In the distant past, salvation meant freedom from work. Eternal sleep was wistful, and eternal life a nightmare. Now that the dead walk, the oikos of the world spirit found a happy medium. The mad dance of capital will outlive the living.
Zombies are neutral entities. They are the realization of the fear that life will never end. Being undead, they rely upon the living to supply them with life. They are driven to perpetuate themselves.
Terra (Lawful)
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. The earth has been ravaged inside and out. Bloody fungal clots form where the skin was breached. Antibodies cleanse the wound, eliminating pathogens who threaten to invade the body. Precious life will return to the soil so that the precious soil returns to life.
Psions are lawful entities. They are utterly unknowable. They do not consume as much as they encompass. Into the far reaches of the earth, into the far reaches of your mind, they will extend themselves. They do not want you to possess life.
Demons
Demons are chaotic entities that naturally emerge wherever people are. In the past, it used to be that claiming that you were possessed was an acceptable way to fuck off from the community for a couple of days and go apeshit in the village cemetery. Later, it became apparent that demons don’t exist. Still, they insist.

Demons only exist where inner turmoil reigns: they are the excess of being when being cannot contain itself. You’ve never heard of a good town fall to a demonic infestation. At the same time, you’ve never heard of an abnormal town fall to a demonic infestation either.
Demons can consume other demons and become more powerful by absorbing their dark energy. Each consumption only releases 1 HD, though.
There’s a 1-in-6 chance that a blood moon falls over the infested area that night. During a blood moon, all demons reemerge.
